whAT SHOULD BE TAUGHT: aL zAHRAWI VS aMBROISE pARE
Qasim Al Zahrawi and Ambroise Pare are surgeons from different cultures and times, but they shared the same ideas. Like, they
both made medical books about surgery. Al Zahrawi called his book “Al Tasrif”. On the other hand, Ambroise Pare called his book
“Les Oeuvres”. Also, both worked in improving the ligaturing of blood vessels. In addition, both scholars/doctors had experience in
military surgery because surgeons were commonly used to cure injured soldiers (as I said before). Although, Al Zahrawi came 547
years before Ambroise Pare, he is not called the “The Father of Surgery”. Instead, Ambroise Pare is called the “Father of Surgery”.
They say that Pare was honoured by Henri II to be titled “The Father of Surgery”. In addition, Al Zahrawi was described for ligaturing
of blood vessels long before Ambroise Pare. I believe Ambroise Pare contributed to Al Zahrawi’s ideas because in his drawings he
used to use the same techniques Al Zahrawi did. So, these are some similarities and diffrenences between Al Zahrawi and Ambroise
Pare.
